Solar Energy:
Solar energy or photovoltaic energy is
the energy gained from Sun. As we all know that there are many projects
developed based on solar energy. Many students also show lot of interest
towards solar energy projects in the final year engineering as they are
very interesting and have the good demand in future. In our real life
also there are many devices work with the help of solar energy like
solar cooker, solar water heater, solar inverter, solar street lights,
solar traffic signal lights, etc.
In this post, we are listing out some of
real time solar energy projects of which few of them are already
completed successfully and the other projects are going to be completed
in near future. We hope these details would definitely give very good
idea to you about the importance of solar energy in our real life in
future.
Successful Solar Energy Projects in India in Real Life:
Gujarat’s Canal-Top Solar Power Plant:
This project was developed and
inaugurated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL)
in April 2012. This power plant is located at Chandrasan village near
Mehsana, 45 kms from Ahmedabad. This solar plant has been set up at the
cost of around Rs 17.50 crore by the US-based Sun Edison. The plant has
been made on a 750-metre stretch of the Sanand branch canal of the
Sardar Sarovar Project.
The main advantages of this project are as follows:
- It will generate 1.6 million units of electricity per year.
- The main advantage is that the panels are built over the canal as a result, around 9 million liters of water does not evaporate.
- The entire length of SSNL canal network in Gujarat is around 19,000 kilometres. According to Gujarat Chief Minister, “Even if 10 per cent of it is used for this type of projects it could generate 2,400 MW of clean energy annually.”
- According to officials, this project will eliminate the need of 11,000 acres of land required for a solar project of this magnitude and save 2 billion litres of water annually.
- It helps in reducing carbon emissions.
- According to CM, the solar panels produced 15 per cent extra power as compared to land installations.
India’s first solar park at Charanka village in Gujarat:
Gujarat accounts for 66% of India’s
total solar power, also boasts of another solar park in Charanka village
in Patan, where over 2,965 acres, rows of photovoltaic cells or solar
panels have been laid out to harness the sun. They generate 214 MW of
electricity every day.
The main key facts about this project are as follows:
- This park spread across 5,000 acres, has 500 MW of generation capacity of both solar and wind energy.
- Gujarat Solar Park has been conferred upon the 10th Wartsila-Mantosh Sondhi Award for significant contribution to the Indian energy sector. The award was given by Wartsila India Ltd.
- With 214 MW of photovoltaic solar capacity, it is larger than Golmud Solar Park in China that has a capacity of 200 MW.
- While 214 MW of grid connected solar power was commissioned at Charanka by 17 national and international companies, 10 solar plants having combined generation capacity of 87.49 MW have gone on stream in Surendranagar, 8 in Kutch (85 MW) and three each in Banaskantha (55.20 MW) and Rajkot (25MW), amongst others.
- In addition to solar energy, the park also manufactures solar power plant panels and other related equipment. It also provides training to local people of Gujarat to work at solar parks.
Sakri Photovoltaic solar energy project:
Sakri Photovoltaic solar energy project
is an under construction 150 MW solar photovoltaic power plant. This
project is developed by Mahagenco in Shivajinagar in Sakri taluka of
Dhule district in Maharashtra, India.
MAHAGENCO Operates Solar PV Project Successfully:
Maharashtra
State Power Generation Co. Ltd (MAHAGENCO) is successfully operating a
solar PV power plant since the past one year in Chandrapur district of
Maharashtra. MAHAGENCO operates large thermal power plants in the state
making it a major power generating company. The project activity is
located in Village: Ambora, Post: Urja Nagar, Taluka: Chandrapur in
Maharashtra. Project is using both Crystalline and Thin Film
technologies. The generated DC power from solar panels is being
converted into AC power using inverters. The output electricity from the
inverters is being stepped up to 33Kv using transformers. The
electrical power at 33 kV level is evacuated through appropriate
transmission arrangements to a 33 kV feeder from Chandrapur MIDC
substation and connected to the 33 kV grid.
Not only the above projects, but there
are some other small solar energy projects developed in India. Some of
them are as follows:
- The Solar Bowl in Auroville, India, concentrates sunlight on a movable receiver to produce steam for cooking.
- The world’s largest Scheffler reflector system in Abu Road, Rajasthan, India is capable of cooking up to 35,000 meals a day.
In this way there are many solar energy
projects are going to be launched in coming days. For latest updates of
successfully completed solar energy projects, visit this page regularly.
